  • Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and basic profile information to manage your account.
  • YouTube Data & Subtitles:When you access a video page, we save the YouTube Video ID to build our immersion video catalog. We do not track, collect, or store your general YouTube watch history.
  • Learning & SRS Data: We store your flashcards, word states (unknown, learning, known), and Spaced Repetition System (SRS) review history to track your progress and schedule future reviews.
  • Payment Information: If you subscribe to our paid services, your payment information is securely processed by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card details on our servers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data strictly to provide and improve the Just In French core functionality:

  • To deliver contextual translations and vocabulary mining on YouTube.
  • To manage your SRS flashcard reviews and learning statistics.
  • To maintain and expand our catalog of French immersion videos.
  • To process payments and manage your subscription.

4. Chrome Extension Permissions Justification

Our Chrome Extension requires specific permissions to function. We only request the minimum permissions necessary:

  • tabs: Used to detect when you navigate to a YouTube video so we can initialize the learning overlay.
  • storage: Used to store your local preferences, theme settings, and authentication tokens securely.
  • host_permissions (for youtube.com): Required to interact with the YouTube page.

5. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with trusted third-party services essential for operating Just In French:

  • Supabase: Used for secure database storage and user authentication.
  • Cloudflare: Used as our API gateway and for security/rate-limiting.
  • Stripe: Used for secure payment processing.

6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure

The Just In French extension's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically:

  • We limit our use of user data to providing or improving our single purpose (language learning via immersion).
  • We do not use or transfer your data for personalized advertisements.
  • We do not allow humans to read your data unless necessary for security purposes, to comply with applicable laws, or with your explicit consent.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your learning data and account information for as long as your account is active. You have the right to request the complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
